Wildlife in the Texas hill country
Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Today is Thursday, November 5, 2009 and today is the day of the armadillo battle! We were just outside making lists of what we need the gardeners to do in the landscaping and it has hit us that we have a “rogue” armadillo – he’s read Sarah Palin’s new book and is on the move. So, we’re going to have to figure out how to get rid of him – get one of our gun-totin’ neighbors or set a trap. Life in the country is so interesting – there is always some sort of weird circumstance that makes you pause and think “I’m not sure I signed up for this when I left the city”. Like the time my son and his friend came screaming into the house, insistent that they had just seen a black panther. Mind you, no one over the age of ten had ever seen this panther, but they were insistent that it existed. So, my husband had to go run around the woods with the kids to convince them that maybe they’ve watched too much t.v.!!! Anyway, we’ve seen this armadillo and he is a “bigun”. We’ll keep you updated on that!
We’ve got a winery right next door to us (350 feet), and they are paving their driveway today, so all their customers will be parking here today and walking over. This should also be interesting.
Joseph is trying something new in the kitchen this week. We decided to make lobster ravioli, and to put some pesto in the ravioli with the lobster. Then, we came up with the idea of putting a velvet corn sauce with the lobster ravioli and to garnish with a couple of pieces of fried sage. This is a little different that we usually do, but the guests seemed to like it at dinner last night.
Gotta go serve breakfast!
